"Creating Positive Change One Individual At A Time"
Hi, I'm Peyton!
Meaningful change starts with feeling seen, heard, and accepted. I understand everyone is unique, and I am committed to meeting people where they are, with compassion and no judgment. I tailor my work to meet individual needs, goals, and values, and I strive to create a space where individuals feel safe to express their true selves, explore goals, and heal.
My therapeutic approach is rooted in walking alongside clients in their journey to healing and bettering themselves. It is difficult to ask for help, but I commit myself to fostering a caring, comfortable environment where clients can feel good about the work they are doing. I work with people to better understand their past and current situation, while identifying strengths to gain the confidence to get through it. I specialize in coping skills, interpersonal relationships, family of origin dynamics, anxiety, depression, PTSD, and substance abuse work.
I utilize an integrative therapeutic style. I combine perspectives such as Person-Centered, Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), Strength-Based approaches, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to help clients navigate life’s stressors. My background is in Family Systems and relationship work. Therapy isn’t one-size-fits-all, and I work with clients to discover what modality and approach works best for them and their goals. I love working with clients on identity and purpose, while also diving into interpersonal/familial dynamics for better understanding!
I earned my Bachelor of Science in Psychology and my Master's in Counselor Education, with a focus on Marriage and Family Counseling, from Virginia Commonwealth University. My background includes inpatient substance abuse treatment, where I worked with individuals struggling with alcohol, drug, and gambling addiction, and discovered my passion for working with individuals battling an alcohol or drug problem/ Additionally, I’ve worked in community mental health, where I mostly worked with those dealing with depression, anxiety, PTSD, and interpersonal relationship concerns. Research was my first passion, and I held assistantship roles in research labs focusing on educational psychology, environmental psychology, and discrimination in the healthcare field. I’ve spent many summers working in schools to assist in the Power Scholars Program, a summer program providing resources to families, along with being a mentor for high school students working on college and career readiness!
In my spare time, I love to read! My preferred genres are fantasy and literary fiction, I consider myself a life-long learner! I enjoy learning new crafts (crochet is a work in progress) and nurturing my relationships with family and friends.
